Developer environment setup
Repositories, pipelines and local environments set up so every developer builds and tests the same way.
When each developer’s machine is set up differently, builds work for one person and fail for the next. We set up shared repositories, branch protection, continuous integration, container-based local environments and secret management. A new developer can clone, run one command and have the system working, and every change is tested the same way before it merges.
What you get
- Git repositories on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket with branch protection rules
- Dev containers or Docker Compose files that start the full stack with one command
- CI pipelines running linting, tests and builds on every pull request
- Secrets moved out of code into a vault or the CI provider’s secret store
- Pull request templates, code owners and review rules agreed with your team
- An onboarding guide a new developer can follow on their first day
How it works
- 01
Review
We look at your repositories, build scripts, how developers run the code locally and how changes reach production.
- 02
Standardise
Toolchain versions, formatting, linting and environment variables are pinned so every machine behaves alike.
- 03
Automate
CI pipelines, dependency updates and secret scanning are added, and slow builds are cached and parallelised.
- 04
Onboard
We test the setup with a developer who has not used it before and fix every step where they get stuck.

Questions
Do our developers have to change editors?
No. Dev containers and Docker Compose work with VS Code, JetBrains IDEs and the plain command line. We standardise the toolchain and project settings, not personal preferences such as themes and keyboard shortcuts.
What if secrets are already in our Git history?
We find them with a secret scanner, rotate each exposed key or password first, then remove them from history where that is safe. Rotation matters more than rewriting history, because old clones may still contain the values.
Is this the same as DevOps?
It is the developer end of it. This service covers how code is written, reviewed and tested locally and in CI. Deploying to servers, release automation and infrastructure belong to our deployment and DevOps service, and the two often go together.
