Internal tools

Admin panels and back-office tools that let your teams fix, approve and look things up on their own.

Many companies run on spreadsheets, shared database logins and requests to engineers for simple fixes. We build internal tools that give each team the screens it needs: look up a customer, issue a refund, correct an address, approve a payout. Actions run through proper permissions and leave an audit trail, so nobody needs direct database access again.

What we build

  • Admin panels for customers, orders, subscriptions and accounts with safe edit actions
  • Support consoles showing a customer’s orders, tickets and payments on one screen
  • Approval screens for refunds, credits, payouts and price overrides
  • Bulk tools for imports, corrections and re-sent notifications, with a preview first
  • Operations views for work queues, stuck background jobs and failed payments
  • Role-based access with masking of personal and payment fields

What it does well

Safe actions

Edits pass through the same validation as your product, never raw database writes.

Audit trail

Each change records who made it, when, what changed and the reason they gave.

Masked data

Phone numbers, ID numbers and card details stay hidden unless a role needs them.

Approval limits

Refunds above a set amount wait for a second person to approve them.

Fast search

Find any customer, order or payment by ID, email or phone from one search box.

Built or assembled

We use Retool or Appsmith where they fit and custom React where they do not.

Questions

Should we use Retool or build custom?

Tools such as Retool and Appsmith are quick for simple record screens and dashboards. Custom builds make sense when the tool needs complex workflows, heavy daily use by many staff, strict data controls, or when per-seat costs start to add up. We often mix both and say which is which.

Is it safe to let support staff change data?

Yes, when the tool is built for it. Staff never touch the database directly. They use actions such as Issue refund or Change address, each with validation, limits by role and an audit record, and risky actions can require a second approver.

Can it connect to our existing product database?

Yes. We prefer to go through your product’s own API or service layer, so business rules stay in one place. Where that does not exist yet, lookups read from a replica and we add carefully designed write endpoints for each action the team needs.
